Calculate Your Tonnage

General Chiller Sizing Formula

We use the standard industrial formula to estimate the cooling capacity required for your application:

  • 1. Calculate Temperature Differential (ΔT°F) = Incoming Temp - Required Temp
  • 2. Calculate BTU/hr = Gallons per Hour × 8.33 × ΔT°F
  • (Note: Gallons per Hour = GPM × 60)
  • 3. Calculate Tons = BTU/hr ÷ 12,000
  • 4. Ideal Size = Tons × 1.2 (Adding a 20% safety margin)
